Information on Rail Travel

Avoid long airport queues and even longer transfers and take Rail Europe’s Snow Trains to the French Alps. With the overnight train from Paris you can maximise the amount of time in the resort with up to eight days on the slopes. Sleep the journey away in a couchette and arrive refreshed for the holiday ahead. Or, for party lovers, there’s an onboard bar/disco carriage so you can dance until you drop. Most ski resorts are less than an hour’s transfer by road from the nearest railway station.

Paris Connection

Your journey starts early on a Friday evening with a Eurostar service leaving from either St. Pancras or Ebbsfleet International in Kent, taking you to Paris Gare du Nord. On arrival in Paris, simply transfer to another platform to board the overnight Snow Train service to the French Alps. The Snow Train arrives in the French Alps early on Saturday morning.

On your return journey the Snow Train departs from the French Alps on Saturday evenings arriving back into Paris Gare du Nord on Sunday morning, with a simple change of platform to join the Eurostar service arriving back into the UK later the same morning. Please note a catering service is not provided on the overnight Snow Train but you can bring your own food and drink on board.

The Rail Europe winter 08/09 prices and dates are currently unavailable. As a guide only, winter 07/08 prices ranged from £229 to £319 per person return and the timetable ran as shown below. The service started on Friday 18th January, 2008 with the last departure on Friday 4th April, 2008.

• Timings of train travel are subject to change, please refer to your tickets for final details and check-in times. All trains are non smoking. Prices are charged per seat, therefore there is no reduction for children on these services. All tickets are non-exchangeable and non refundable.
• Any change to name or dates on these tickets before they are issued will result in an administration fee. Any cancellation will result in a full loss of monies regardless of normal cancellation charges. These tickets must be paid for in full at the time of reservation. The accommodation carriages have 6 couchettes each, so shared compartments with other passengers are usual. It is possible to pay additional fares for sole occupancy - subject to availability.
• We are happy to request specific seating and sleeping arrangements but these can not be guaranteed.

SWISS RAIL TRAVEL

For clients flying into and staying in Switzerland the Swis Transfer Ticket is a popular product and ideal for winter travellers. It is a return ticket allowing one-day transfers from any airport or border station to any destination in Switzerland and back. Each journey must be completed on the day of validation. Tickets are valid for one month.  Prices for 08/09 are currently unavailable; as a guide only, the 07/08 price for a second class adult ticket was £65. There are also family tickets where children under 15 yrs go free with two paying adults.

The Day train usually goes out on Saturday during the winter season and the Overnight train goes out on a Friday evening. There is no couchette coach on this train, passengers remain in their seats. A pillow pack is provided on the night service. A bar-buffet with a choice of snacks, hot and cold drinks and meals are available for standard class passengers. Leisure Select passengers will be served complimentary dinner/breakfast or lunch/afternoon tea depending on the train service being used.

* The inbound service does not stop at Aime La Plagne, therefore passengers should plan their journey from Bourg St Maurice. 

Eurostar issue many fares and the price you will pay will depend on the availability at the time of booking and the flexibility you require. Eurostar's 08/09 prices are currently not confirmed; however, in winter 07/08 adult fares began at £179 per person for standard class and £269 per person in Leisure Select. The ticket is non-exchangeable and non-refundable. Cancellation will result in full loss of monies paid regardless of Erna Low cancellation charges.

• Any change including time, name and date to these tickets will result in a loss of all monies. These tickets must be paid for in full at the time of reservation. All fares will include a £20 booking fee to cover administration.
• Peak travel dates sell out very fast and it is highly unlikely that lower fares will be available. All trains are non smoking. We are also happy to request specific seating arrangements; however, we regret that these can not be guaranteed.
