La Rosiere ski area to expand for winter 2018-19
New 'Mont-Valaisan' area will appeal to more advanced skiers with the addition of 5 new red pistes
La Rosière is renowned for its sunny slopes and great snow (the resort enjoyed over 10m of total snowfall during the 2017-18 winter season), as well as its link to the Italian resort of La Thuile. Both resorts together make up the San Bernardo ski area. At Erna Low we have always recommended La Rosière as a great area for intermediate skiers, however advanced skiers may have hoped to find more challenging terrain.
This is all set to change for the 2018-19 winter season, with the planned opening of the new 'Mont-Valaisan' area in December 2018. €15 million worth of investment will create 5 new red pistes, which will be served by two very efficient new chairlifts with a joint uplift capacity of over 5,000 skiers per hour. The ski area will be expanded considerably and the summit elevation of the resort will be increased to 2,800m, making it a much safer choice for early and late season skiing.
