Overview of Verbier
Verbier is undeniably one of Europe's (and possibly the world's) most prestigious ski resorts and as such, it comes as no surprise that it was crowned, World’s Best Ski Resort at the 2021 World Ski Awards. It has also held the title of Switzerland’s Best Ski Resort in 2018 and 2019; an award that it was and is no stranger to. So why does it receive so many accolades? Well, what makes Verbier special is all the different components that add up to make it one of the most desired ski resorts in the world. It has high-altitude sunny slopes, fantastic snow conditions, mind-blowing scenery and one of the best apres-ski scenes in Europe. It also has fantastic accommodation options from luxury chalets to 5-star hotels and is only less than a 2-hour transfer from Geneva making it an appealing destination for short stays and ski weekends.
Part of the 4 Vallées ski domain, Verbier grants access to just over 400 kilometres of pistes on altitudes ranging between 1,400 and 3,328 metres. The vast majority of its pistes comprise high-altitude slopes above the tree line. Is best suited to advanced level skiers and snowboarders in search of powder.
The village itself is a picturesque sight to behold. It captures the idyllic, winter wonderland image, covered and nestled in the snow with its several wooden chalets dotted across the village. It has always welcomed tourists since the mid 19 century and it still maintains its traditional Alpine charm and character. There is so much to see and do at Verbier that it must be top of your next ski destination list.
Skiing in Verbier
If there's anything that Verbier lacks, it is a shortage of beginner slopes, but that is something attributed to the terrain. It does, however, have excellent sunny nursery slopes at the resort and their gentle and easy blues at La Chaux and Savoleyres. Another great area for beginners looking to improve and build confidence would be the Mont Gélé slope, although it is known to get busy.
The Savoleyres area is particularly excellent for intermediates with a good selection of red and blue runs next to neighbouring La Tzoumaz. It's also perfect for confident beginners trying to improve. The Tortin at 2,050 metres is also fantastic for intermediate skiers as it's usually less busy and has a good selection of reds.
Advanced skiers will feel at home here. Verbier offers a wide selection of great runs such as the 3,023-metre drop from the Mont Gélé summit. It also has the stunning Chassoure-Tortin run that will test every advanced skier's ability. There are also limitless off-piste opportunities to explore.
Snowboarding in Verbier
Verbier has a great reputation for freeriding and is the host of the annual Verbier Xtreme freeride contest as well as the Verbier Ride freeskiing competition; both events play a huge role in why the resort is loved by boarders and skiers alike and why it has a huge reputation among them. The terrain is perfect for snowboarders thanks to its long open reds and fantastic powder. Verbier also has the world-class La Chaux snow park which sits at 2,260 metres and is superbly equipped with rails, corners and jumps.

Apres-Ski in Verbier
Verbier is an apres-ski lover's dream ski holiday destination. It ranks as one of the best apres-ski resorts in Europe and draws some world-famous faces on occasion. Famed for its vibrant nightlife, Verbier attracts visitors from other parts of Switzerland like Geneva and close cities who make the trip solely to enjoy its apres-ski fun. The resort has a wide variety of apres events from slope parties to sophisticated bars, traditional pubs and chic clubs at the resort level. Whether you are looking for beers and chats or late night parties and dancing, it's all on the cards at Verbier. We have put together a few places that you should consider visiting on your Verbier ski holidays with Erna Low.
Le Farinet Lounge Bar
A staple of legendary status in Verbier, Farinet is one of the resort's most famous bars and is a huge favourite among locals and visitors. Located in the lovely, Alpine-style Hotel Farinet, the Le Farinet Lounge Bar was once voted “Best Après Ski Bar Worldwide” by Which?. To this day Farinet is still one of the leading apres-ski bars well known for having one of Verbier's most carefree, party atmospheres. With its massive sliding roof, Farinet can literally “raise the roof” in spectacular fashion and bring in the sun for the party people on the dance floor. With over 30 signature cocktails, beer on tap, an international gin menu and a selection of champagnes, Le Farinet Lounge Bar has all the “juices” to keep the party going. It also features live bands almost every day of the week, live DJ sets, themed parties, extravagant costume dancers and other side attractions. If you are into your sport, there is a sports bar section to catch up on live sporting events. If you are visiting Verbier this season and in search of a good night out in the resort, Le Farinet should be top of your apres-ski list.
Pub Mont Fort
One of Verbier's longest-serving pubs, Pub Mont Fort has been serving the resort's apres-ski community since 1977. This is another of Verbiers night haunts with legendary status and certainly regarded as one the best apres-ski places in the area. An excellent mix of pub and party lounge, Pub Mont Fort combines the friendly and chilled out vibes of a traditional Alpine pub with a lively party atmosphere. Located in the heart of the resort, it is an excellent choice of a pub to start your apres-ski evening with a few pints and some tasty, top-quality pub grub before swinging back later in the evening to join in some of its iconic parties. There are often live music events featuring talented bands and performers as well as themed parties. You can also enjoy your drinks and meal while catching up on selected live sporting events on a large screen at Pub Mont Fort.
You don't have to wait until you are back at the resort to kick start your apres-ski fun Verbier. Sitting at 1,550 metres at the end of the Rouge slope, Le Rouge Restaurant and Apres-Ski Bar offers an amazing Alpine experience. Although it sits on the slopes, it is still accessible via ski, sledge, foot and shuttle bus, so you don't necessarily have to have been skiing on the slopes to get there ( even though it makes for an excellent pit stop on your way down!). A restaurant and a pub/bar, Le Rouge excels in both faculties exceedingly well. It has the cosiness of a traditional Alpine chalet with its elegant mix of wood, stone and sheepskin throws, blended with contemporary modern themes. The restaurant offers traditional brasserie-style dining during lunchtime and refined dining in the evenings. The bar and apres-ski section “La Luge '', is located on the upper deck of the building with an interior bar and outdoor terrace featuring amazing views of the mountains. La Luge is the perfect spot for pre-dinner cocktails and a few glasses of wine but when 3 pm comes around, it launches its famed apres-ski event often referred to as “Ibiza in the snow”.
A great spot for some mid-afternoon slope fun on the slopes, Bar 1936 is located at 1,740 metres on the slopes and is accessible via ski, the Medran cable car and chair lifts. Famously referred to as “the best après-ski place between Les Ruinettes and Verbier” it combines two yurt huts which create a warm and cosy mountainside atmosphere. On the outside, it has a 100 seater terrace where skiers can also enjoy drinks while soaking up the afternoon sun. Bar 1936 has a very friendly atmosphere and it makes for an excellent pit stop and catch-up hub for skiers on the route. It serves a variety of drinks, grilled meats and Mongolian fondue.
