Les Gets ski resort overview

Only a short bus trip away from the neighbouring Morzine, Les Gets is a quieter, traditional French Alpine village nestled idyllically in the Portes du Soleil ski area. Its proximity ( 50 kilometres) to Geneva International airport makes it an even more attractive ski holiday destination due to its short transfer times; meaning more people can visit for a short weekend stay as well. It's perfect for adults and children alike, especially families who would want to explore the Portes du Soleil while avoiding the party atmosphere of Avoriaz and Morzine. Les Gets is a friendly and welcoming resort with charming chalet-style buildings and lovely spectacular views of Mont Blanc from the slopes. Even in the winter season, the village still has a warm ambience and its small compact centre features a quaint cluster of bars and restaurants within walking distance from each other. Les Gets sits at an altitude of 1170 metres with pistes stretching up to 2350 metres altitude. Its location in the Portes du Soleil means that visitors get up to 650 kilometres of pistes across the four additional resorts of Avoriaz, Morzine and Chatel in France and the resort of Champery which sits across the border in Switzerland. There is also a very efficient network of over 100 lifts that interconnect the resorts. Skiing is fantastic in Les Gets with most of its pistes around the village suitable for intermediates. Beginners and advanced skiers are catered to as well in the local ski area and with access to the vast Portes du Soleil ski area, visitors have a range of options to choose from. Les Gets also benefits from its calmer nature. With the lion share of holidaymakers visiting Avoriaz and Morzine, there are fewer queues at the lifts and ticket machines and the slopes are relatively quieter; especially the slopes in Mont Chery on the opposite side of Les Gets.

Skiing in Les Gets

With access to one of the biggest ski areas in France on its doorstep, it is safe to say that Les Gets ski resort has an abundance of ski terrain available to cover. The local Les Gets area features a mix of cruisy tree-lined blues and open reds most suited to confident beginners and intermediate skilled skiers but the area in general caters to all ski ability types. With easy links to Morzine and Avoriaz and the rest of the Portes du Soliel, there is more than enough terrain to satisfy everyone.

The nursery slopes are located at the resort level on the Les Chavannes slopes with easy access via the gondolas or chair lifts. If you’re visiting with the children, you can also use the same lifts to access the Grand Cry ski area. An additional option for the family is the Choucas run which features mini jumps all the way back down. Confident beginners can take the Ranfoiily chairlift to 1826 metres for some wide-open blues or the La Rossa chairlift to 1,665 metres for some tree-lined action.

There are excellent reds on Mont Chéry which are a favourite among intermediate skiers. For more adventure, ski through Morzine, Avoriaz and even over the border to Champery to access its north-facing slopes.

Seasoned and well-experienced skiers have a World Cup run from Hautes Fortes as a challenge. For more options, take the Chamossiére Express to the summit at 2,002 metres to tackle the steep black as well as its fantastic off-piste opportunities.

Snowboarding in Les Gets

Snowboarding in Les Gets is great for beginners and intermediates and there is enough terrain for free-riders on the slopes. There is also a Freestyle District at Mont Chery which includes a mix of rails, kickers, jibs, boxes and a hip. There is also a snow park and freestyle area on the Chavannes mountain which can be accessed via the Mouille au Roi drag lift.

Apres Ski Les Gets

Having known to be a quieter and more family-friendly ski resort in comparison to Morzine and Avoriaz, Les Gets ski resort is more laid back and generally has a mellow apres-ski than its bigger and noisier neighbours. Nevertheless, it comes alive at night time especially at the weekends with visiting skiers flocking in from different parts of the country. With a number of bars and lounges, Les Gets still offers a great evening of fun and visitors from abroad can still experience a traditional French apres-ski. It also has a number of mountain huts where you can kick off your apres ski before heading back down to the resort. From lively bars to relaxed spots, there is something for everyone. If you are after livelier apres-ski, Avoriaz is the closest resort and is still accessible after dark but keep your on the clock if you want to make it back in time. We have put together a few places that may interest you in Les Gets. Happy hunting!

L'Après Ski Bar

Aptly named, L'Après Ski Bar, it literally says what it does “on the tin”; apres-ski! Conveniently located next to the tourist office at the resort, it is quite hard to miss. It has a lovely sunny terrace where you can enjoy some lovely sunshine and a drink as well as soak in the fun atmosphere. It's also a good place to kick start your apres-ski evening just coming off the slopes as it is also located at the foot of the slopes. Apart from the great music, the bar welcomes a live band twice a week. L'Après Ski Bar also has an amazing drinks menu with exotic cocktails and a very extensive wine list.

Bar Bush

Bar Bush is a popular spot in Les Gets and one of its oldest and longest-serving bars. Open every day from 4 pm, it is particularly popular with Brits and always have a lively and friendly atmosphere. It is a typical holiday Alpine bar, small in size but always pulls a great crowd. It has great music, a great selection of drinks and once a week it hosts a quiz night which is a pub favourite. It also has occasionally themed nights so look out for some fun evenings ahead.

Le Pub Irlandais ( The Irish Pub)

Le Pub Irlandais has been a mainstay at Les Gets for more than 20 years. It is an Irish themed pub and another favourite among Brits and holidaymakers from overseas. It is located only a mare stone's throw from the Chavannes lift, so it's quite easy to find. It is the ideal place for a pulled pint of ale as it has its own micro-brewery where it brews its own beers and cask ales! It is open every day from 2 pm, it has the traditional Irish pub atmosphere and makes for a very friendly evening of drinking and merry-making.

Bar Le Bowling ( Bowling Bar)

A little different from typical bars but just as much fun. At Bar Le Bowling, you can enjoy a few drinks and play bowling, darts and shoot a game of pool on any of the two tables. Great music and televised English and French football games.
