Ski Holidays in France
Still the most popular destination for visitors from the U.K. to take their ski holidays, France offers so many irresitable reasons to visit. French ski resorts are amongst the most easily accessible - you can self-drive, you can fly direct to regional airports from an increasing number of U.K. airports, or you can take advantage of several relaxing train options including the ever-popular Eurostar direct.
Once there you will find that the French ski experience offers incomparable pleasures - fantastic high altitude areas with vast ski domains and enviable snow conditions. Val Thorens, for example, is not only the highest resort in Europe; it has also recently been voted best French ski resort in the World Ski Awards. It is also part of the world's largest ski area, Les Trois Vallées, home of world-class ski resorts such as Courchevel and Méribel. Equally famous domains are Paradiski, home to La Plagne and Les Arcs; Les Portes du Soleil, comprising Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets amongst others; and L’Espace Killy, encompassing Val d’Isère and Tignes.
The majority of French ski resorts offer very modern and efficient lift systems with some such as Arc 1950 boasting the ultimate in ski-in / ski-out convenience. Some of the resorts that became popular in the 1960s may lack aesthetically pleasing architecture, but there are still some lovely lesser-known picturesque villages. So whether you are all about the skiing, or are searching for an authentic mountain experience for your ski holidays, France offers something for everyone.
