If you want to hit the slopes without breaking the bank, a self-drive ski holiday is a great way to make skiing more affordable. A self-drive ski holiday with Erna Low also brings many other benefits that you may not have considered, so we've put together our top reasons to consider driving to the Alps for your next ski trip.

1. Beat the queues

All our Eurotunnel crossings come with an automatic upgrade to the Flexiplus service, with benefits including dedicated check-in lane and priority loading. Relax as you sail past the queues and stop off at the Flexiplus lounge for your complimentary sandwiches and drinks, before being the first to board the train. You'll also be the first off at the other end, so you can get straight on the Autoroute. Read more about Eurotunnel Flexiplus benefits »

2. Save money

If you have three or four in a car, driving becomes great value. The cost of your channel crossing, petrol and tolls are split between the whole party and you can also stop off at the larger supermarkets en-route to stock up on supplies for the week without paying resort prices. To drive from London to Flaine would cost less than £100 p/p including Eurotunnel, fuel and tolls, based on 4 sharing a vehicle.

3. Travel at your own pace

Whether you want to leave straight from work and drive through the night, or break up the journey, you're free to travel when you want.

4. Stop off en-route

There are lots of interesting place to stop on the way - visit the Champagne region, takes the kids to Disneyland Paris, or just check out one of the many beautiful and historical towns en-route to the Alps.

5. Take as much luggage as you want

Avoid hefty ski carriage charges, baggage restrictions and even stop on the way to stock up on food for the week at the cheaper hypermarkets in the valley. Your only restriction is how much you can fit in your car!

6. More freedom

Having a car can be useful if you want to take a day off skiing to exlore the local area, or fancy doing a day at a different resort. Many ski areas offer discounts at neighbouring resorts upon presentation of your ski pass.

7. Enjoy added flexibility

Imagine waking up to a foot of fresh powder on your last day and having to jump on a shuttle to the airport. With our upgrade to Eurotunnel's Flexiplus service, your ticket is completely flexible, so you can stay and ski all day and then head home, without worrying about missing your crossing.

8. Take your furry friends with you

Dogs are welcome on the Eurotunnel, so why not give them a holiday too, rather than putting them in kennels for the week. Travelling via Eurotunnel means that you can stay together for the short 35 minute crossing, while dedicated pet receptions and exercise areas at both terminals mean that you can be sure of a smooth, stress-free journey for both you and your pets.
