Pila itself is a family friendly town where you can wander through ancient monuments and then take advantage of great shopping, restaurants and coffee shops. Pila is a smaller resort that gives you a warm and friendly welcome and gets busier at the weekend as locals from Milan and Turin arrive to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the skiing.
It was originally very much a Summer destination but ha grown in popularity through the Winter Season and is now a fabulous place in Italy to ski as it is placed perfectly for quick and easy access to Aosta’s gorgeous slopes.

The Aosta – Pila cable car is an 18 minute trip filled with breath taking views across the valley as you are transported directly on to the slopes.

Pila is a car free resort with free parking in a large car park just 10 minutes away, or arriving by train a short walk through a purpose built underpass to the gondola.

Its offers the widest range of skiing, groomed or natural with slopes of up to 2700m with open areas of powder, lively après-ski with flowing tree line wooded and forest areas for freeriding, and with 600m of awesome structures from railboxes to funboxes running along the Grimod piste snowboarding hasn’t been as much fun for all levels in the fun park.

For those who get up in the morning you will find crisp, clear tracks and oxygenated snow; the snow has no lumps, bumps or ice. The variety and choice of pistes makes the Pila resort an ideal place for beginners, intermediates and those who having been skiing all their lives, as well as the snowboarders who are wanting to learning or developing their skills and take on challenges.

With 480 snow cannons creating and building artificial snow gives an incredible 80% coverage of the slopes and a choice of how you want to use the pistes. This is surely gives you excellent snow reliability and the best way to enjoy your holiday and the snow.

Pila forms part of the Aosta Valley ski area, offering a well-designed and snow-sure ski area that’s perfect for all levels. The resort boasts up to 70km of well-groomed slopes across a sunny, south-facing bowl, served by a modern lift system designed to keep queues short and access easy. The terrain also offers a great mix of wide, open runs and scenic tree-lined trails. Sitting at 1,800m with slopes peaking at 2,750m, the resort offers four blues, 25 reds and four blacks.

Pilas' location within the Aosta Valley also offers easy access to neighbouring resorts in the region, such as Cervinia and La Thuile, both of which are connected to the Aosta Valley ski network.

Snow conditions in Pila

Pila generally enjoys excellent snow reliability throughout the season thanks to its high-altitude slopes and the mountain's north-facing orientation, which helps preserve and maintain snow quality even in milder conditions. The area also receives regular snowfall, which keeps the slopes higher up the mountain covered in fresh powder. On the rare occasion where supplementation is needed, the resort has modern snowmaking facilities on stand-by to cover any shortages. The pistes are well-maintained, with daily grooming keeping the runs smooth and enjoyable for all abilities. When fresh snow falls, there’s also plenty of off-piste terrain to explore, offering a real treat for powder lovers.

Skiing in Pila

Pila is undoubtedly one of Italy’s best-kept skiing secrets. With fewer queues and quieter slopes than some of Italy’s larger and more popular resorts, Pila offers a compact, well-designed ski area with mixed slopes across a varied terrain.

  • Beginners and families with small children will find Pila a great place to take their first ‘slushy’ steps. The nursery slopes near the village, like the Pila and Grimondet, offer wide pistes perfect for learning and practising their turns and ploughs on uncrowded slopes.
  • With the majority of Pila’s slopes being reds (and some challenging blues), intermediates are absolutely spoiled for choice. Runs like the Chamolé, Leissé, and Platta de Grevon are particularly long, enjoyable runs across varied terrain and with minimal crowds and fantastic snow.
  • Seasoned vets get to test their skills on steep blacks like Couis 1 and Couis 2, where the panoramic views are as rewarding as the descents. There’s also excellent off-piste terrain above the tree line - best to hit after fresh snowfall - and we’ll always recommend going with a guide.

Pila is a fantastic destination for snowboarders seeking a blend of excellent terrain, dependable snow, and the relaxed charm of Italy. The resort’s well-maintained slopes, reliable snow, and easy lift connections make for a smooth and enjoyable experience for snowboarders.

  • Pila’s slopes are ideal for carving and freeriding - from wide open pistes higher up the ski area to the tree-lined runs lower down, offering some terrain variety (and shelter in bad conditions).
  • Freestyle snowboarders will love the AreaEffe Snowpark, one of the highlights of Pila. It features a range of kickers, rails, and boxes for different skill levels, as well as a relaxed atmosphere that’s great for progression and meeting other riders.
