The gorgeous village of Cauterets is a year round destination and its surprisingly beautiful architecture and proximity to Lourdes-Tarbes airport make it a great destination for a short stay. The transfer from Lourdes-Tarbes is approximately 45 minutes one way.
History suggests that Napoléon III’s wife Hortense conceived after spending some time in the region so he invested heavily in the infrastructure of the area.
It is a great destination if you want to visit somewhere that has plenty going on outside of skiing. There are the thermal baths, the shops and restaurants and don’t forget to try the local special sweets that were invented to take away the taste of the sulphur in the water whilst you were taking “the cure”.
Casino, cinema, indoor ice-rink, indoor heated swimming pool, a climbing wall, library, confectionary factory.
1500 m² of Thermal Spas: Les Bains du Rocher, dedicated to relaxation right in the town centre. There is also a full range of beauty products which have been developed using Cauterets' thermal water of Cauterets combined with carefully sourced local organic plants.
We recommend: Evening bubbles: Les Bains du Rocher open late once a week (until 22h) so you can enjoy the spa experience with a DJ and a glass of champagne!
Facilities for children
There is a Kindergarten for children aged 4-7 years and a baby sledge in Cirque du Lys or a mini-club on the slopes of the Lys for children aged 3-7 years. The village offers a children's area 'La Verriere enchantee' for children aged 3-12 years and a charming carousel from the 1950s.
