Situated in the Valasian Val d’Anniviers ski domain, the charming and traditional village of Grimentz offers a rare opportunity to enjoy high-altitude skiing in an authentic, Swiss village.
The village is steeped in history with buildings dating back to the fifteenth century. It boasts a charming mix of cobbled streets, ancient grain stores, barns and a selection of chalet-hotels. The views are stunning; the ancient barns have been burnt black in the sun, which creates a truly stunning vista – especially with some of the highest mountains in Europe as its backdrop. In fact, Grimentz it is considered a “cultural jewel” and draws visitors for both the unique culture and fantastic skiing on offer.
Just 15 miles from Verbier (as the crow flies), the village is situated in the valley between Zermatt and the Verbier domain. Its privileged location enjoys high altitude skiing (up to 3000m), superb off-piste skiing, one of the longest winter ski seasons in the Alps, as well as one of the best sunshine records in the area.
Despite this superb location, the area is relatively unknown, which promises quiet slopes. The village has recently been linked to the resort of Zinal via a cable car. Due to this, the area now boasts 120km of pistes, as well as excellent off-piste skiing and cross-country skiing. Further afield, the Val d’Anniviers ski domain offers 230km of pistes, five villages and fantastic skiing for all abilities.
Not to be missed is the superb local cuisine, including the Edelweiss-Schnapps and tasty rye bread from the old village bakery. For visitors in December, the village boasts a charming Christmas market.
Tobogganing, heli-skiing, cross-country skiing, snow tubing, snow shoeing, avalanche training centre.
