It’s back, by popular demand!

Those who enjoyed the activities held during last year’s National Schools Snowsport Week will be pleased to hear that Snowsport England has announced that the event is set to return this year from the 24th-30th April 2017.

Having already gained the support from four world-class, Olympic skiers (Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards, Graham Bell, Aimee Fuller and Dave Ryding); Snowsport Week, which is sponsored by Andorra, promises to offer primary, secondary and sixth form pupils across the UK, a range of fantastic, new experiences. Those who take part can expect to enjoy a taste of what some of the most popular winter sports have to offer, including skiing, snowboarding, tubing and toboggan rides. And, whereas for most, this opportunity will allow the children their first experience of winter sports; the week is also open to students who wish to improve upon their existing skills, with opportunities to try more advanced pursuits such as; racing, freestyle or skicross.

Winter sports are an excellent way to keep fit, and uniformly promote physical strength, balance and agility. The aim of the week, however, is to keep the experience fun and light-hearted; teaching the children a range of new and valuable skills. National Schools Snowsport Week ambassador Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards commented ahead of the week: “I started skiing when I was 13 and have lived and breathed it for my whole life. I am proof that anyone – no matter what their age or background is – can get into snowsports. I am proud to support National Schools Snowsport Week and hope it brings lots of young people into our brilliant sport.”

All students and schools are encouraged to participate. As noted by inthesnow.com, ‘Schools can join in with whole classes, whole year groups, or even with just a handful of students. ’The participating venues are offering such experiences for free or at highly discounted prices.

Following last year’s success, where it is thought that more than 1,000 children were introduced to snow sports; 2017 looks set to mirror previous year’s success with more than 1700 pupils already having signed up to take part at various venues across the country.
