Gurgl Ski Holidays

Gurgl Ski Holidays Overview

Gurgl, the self-styled ‘diamond of the Alps’ is an amazing winter and snow sports destination which sits at the rear end of the Ötztal, in the Austrian Alps, surrounded by 3,000 metres high peaks and some of the Austrian and European Alps most snow-sure ski terrains. With a ski season that begins in mid-November, the Gurgl ski area is one of the earliest non-glacier ski areas in the Tyrolean region to begin the ski season which lasts until late April.

The Gurgl area has fantastic distribution piste difficulties between the two resorts that make up the area; Obergurgl and Hochgurgl. All the slopes here are freshly prepared on a daily basis to ensure skiers and snowboarders enjoy top quality skiing on immaculately groomed runs. First-timers and beginners can enjoy gentle slopes at Hohcgurgl with intermediate skiers finding a testing challenge in Festkogel in Obergurgl. Both resorts have challenging advanced runs from the 8 kilometres Wurmkogl to Obergurgl run with a 1,260 descent to the Top Mountain Star steep ride run down to Wurmkogl middle station at Hochgurgl. The 112 kilometres of pistes are serviced by 25 modern mountain lifts that network across the area and can ferry more than 43,000 passengers per hour.

The Gurgl ski area also offers fantastic non-ski activities, entertainment and facilities for visiting guests at the resorts. There is a wide range of top-quality spas and wellness centres, offering beauty treatments and soothing massages. Very popular among Austrian ski resorts, the area has its fair share of deluxe, high-end shops and boutiques if you fancy a bit of mid-holiday shopping. Kids are also very well catered for in both resorts in the Gurgl ski area with dedicated fun areas and exciting activities like tobogganing, ice skating and curling. The area also has excellent accommodation options from highly-rated hotels, spacious chalets and child-friendly apartments on the slopes with door-to-door skiing!
