5 Unique things to do in the French Alps

We all know the main purpose of our annual ski trip is to make the most of that precious time on the slopes with friends or family; however, with so many unique and exciting activities to try in the French Alps, you'll really be missing out if you don't try at least one or two new experiences on your next ski trip. We've picked out some unique activities to try when you next visit the French Alps.

1. Spend a romantic night in a piste basher

La Plagne Okay, it might not sound like the most romantic evening in the world, but bear with us... This particular piste basher has been converted into a luxury refuge, complete with double bed, mini-bar, home cinema, and spectacular panoramic views. Perched high above the resort of La Plagne, you'll have the mountain to yourself for a true night to remember. Your evening starts when a chauffeur-driven Jaguar collects you from your residence and whisks you to the mountain base at Plagne-Bellecôte. You will then ride up to your home for the night in a groomer. In the morning, enjoy a breathtaking sunrise, followed by breakfast of coffee and Danish pastries, before heading off for the day with unique memories to cherish.

2. Hurl yourself off the side of a mountain

Tignes Definitely one for the adrenaline addicts, the Bun-J-Ride is a huge ramp where you can launch yourself into a 40m void attached to two elasticated cords. This exciting activity combines the thrill of ski jumping, bungee jumping and zip-line for an experience you'll never forget. The jump is located alongside the "Lac" blue run (accessed via the Merles, chairlift). it is possible to use the jump on skis, snowboard or sledges. - Minimum age/weight: 13 yrs / 40 kg - Open every day (except on Saturday), from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm. - Price: 75 € per person

3. Spend the day at a water park

Avoriaz Flat light days are never fun on the mountain, so if the weather takes a turn for the worse, why not spend the day at 'Aquariaz', located right in the centre of Avoriaz. This large indoor water park boasts a lazy river, half-pipe tube ride, water play area and even a climbing wall, while adults can relax in the outdoor hot tub and enjoy stunning cliff-top views.

4. Visit a real French cheese dairy

Morzine France is famous for its cheese, which forms the basis of many traditional Savoyard dishes. In Morzine you can actually take a guided tour of a working dairy. Visit the maturing cellars, experience the strong fresh aromas, and what tour would be complete without a tasting session too!

5. Explore the underwater world

Val Thorens Embark on a wild adventure beneath the frozen Lac du Lou, located just a short distance from the resort. View the lake from a surreal perspective as you explore under the frozen surface and marvel at how the light plays on the ice. Take a look at what to expect You will make your way to the lake either on snow shoes or cross country skis (approx. 40 mins) and will then take part in a 30-minute ice diving session (including equipment briefing) supervised by professional diving instructors. After donning a waterproof drysuit and diving equipment (compressed neoprene drysuit, waterproof gloves, diving mask), it’s time for 20 minutes of glacial exploration, before returning to resort on snow shoes or skis. This activity is open to anyone aged 16 and over, even if you have never been diving before.
