Arc 2000 Transfers

At 2,000m, Arc 2000 is the highest village in the Les Arcs sector - and for serious skiers, that's the whole point.

The altitude means outstanding snow reliability, first tracks on quieter mornings, and direct access to the Aiguille Rouge glacier, which remains one of the most exhilarating runs in the Paradiski domain. The atmosphere here is more functional than fairytale: this is a resort built around skiing first, with panoramic views of Mont Blanc and the Tarentaise Valley thrown in as a very welcome bonus. Many residences are ski-in, ski-out, and while the layout feels more expansive than in Arc 1950, getting around is still straightforward.

Reaching Arc 2000 is similar to Arc 1950 in terms of route options, but worth planning carefully given the extra altitude. By air, Chambéry is the fastest gateway at around 1 hour 45 minutes (142km), while Geneva - the most popular international choice - sits at roughly 3 hours (206km). Lyon and Grenoble are reliable alternatives at 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours, and are often preferred by those looking to avoid Swiss border traffic. By rail, TGV and Eurostar Snow services run to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, from where a 7-minute funicular connects to Arc 1600, followed by a free 30-minute shuttle bus up to Arc 2000. Drivers should note that the climb from the valley floor stretches to around 25km - the longest ascent of any Les Arcs village - and underground parking must be arranged in advance.

When it comes to transfers, Arc 2000 makes a strong case for going private. The resort's tiered layout means arriving with heavy luggage via shared shuttle - which typically drops at the central Place Basse or main bus terminal - can involve an awkward walk or a local lift to reach higher residences. Private transfers deliver you directly to your residence or hotel reception, which, at altitude and in winter conditions makes a real difference. The final stretch of road to Arc 2000 is frequently snow-covered, so having a professional driver in a winter-ready vehicle isn't just a comfort - it's genuinely practical.
