Is this the most stylish ski lift in the world?
Val d'Isère to get brand new "La Daille" gondola for winter 2018/19
It's the end of an era this summer in Val d'Isère as the "La Daille" gondola, originally constructed in 1966, is finally retired. The replacement, however, is something pretty special in the world of ski lifts - created by Italian designer Pininfarina, who is better known as the name behind some of the most iconic sports cars ever produced, by the likes of Ferarri and Maserati.

The new lift will be equipped with fifty Symphony 10 cabins, each seating up to ten skiers and snowboarders. Passengers will be whisked up the mountain in comfort, with heated seats and panoramic views from the spacious cabins. Sliding doors will also bring a welcome end to bruised kneecaps from the old door mechanisms.
Not only is the new lift much faster, halving the ascent time from 9 minutes to just 4½ minutes, but it is also kinder to the environment with a total of 40 pylons being removed in the La Daille sector, in line with the resort's Green Globe commitment.
This is not the only change coming to Val d'Isère, with a huge €200 million re-development of the village centre also being undertaken, due for completion in 2022. The regeneration intends to transform the village into one of the most beautifully-styled and well equipped resorts in the Tarentaise valley, with additional facilities to be added, including an underground bus station, creche, new tourist office, pedestrian shopping street and much more. Take a look at the video below to see what the new development will look like.
