Ski chalets in Paradiski
The traditional Alpine chalet silhouette is so iconic that there’s not doubt you can picture it even if you’ve never holidayed in the Alps. From its classic A-frame roof with overhanging eaves to its ornate carve balconies, and rustic wooden facades to stone bases and cosy interiors with blazing fires, the chalet has earned its place as a design classic.
And the Erna Low chalet-style accommodation you’ll stay in at Paradiski broadly follows the same formula ̶ although it’s usually on a grand scale, with those time-tested architectural features expanded to house several self-contained residential units complete with bedrooms, bathrooms, living rooms and sometimes even luxurious kitchens.
In Latin, ‘chalet’ roughly translates as ‘herder’s hut’ and this is the precise purpose these buildings originally served ̶ shepherds would occupy several chalets set at different altitudes so that animals could graze on lush Alpine meadows at higher altitudes in the height of summer, gradually moving down the mountains as winter set in until they reached the valley floors. Chalets were then left unattended for the cold season while shepherds and their stock kept cosy in agricultural buildings on flat land in warmer areas.
But it was our founder Erna Low herself who pioneered the concept of the ski chalet holiday when she started co-ordinating all-inclusive ski breaks in Austria from 1932. Their popularity steadily increased in the post-war years and by the 1960s air travel made resorts across the Alps more accessible to the masses and modern chalets even had ‘seasonaires’ ̶ hosts who catered for the needs of guests throughout the winter season.
From humble beginnings as basic shepherd’s sheds, Alpine ski chalets have evolved into salubrious accommodation options which often have onsite spas, saunas and swimming pools as well as plush living quarters. Here are a couple of examples of the stunning chalet residences which could be keeping you and your family and friends cosy and comfortable during your next Paradiski holiday:
Le Chalet des Arolles in Arc 2000 is less than 100m from the resort’s free Rhodos drag lift, so you can shower, breakfast, dress and hit the slopes swiftly every morning, maximising your time on the fabulous fresh powder slopes in the vicinity. It comprises several chalets designed in the authentic Savoyard style and each is subdivided into spacious and comfortable apartment units and enjoys views of either the mountains or the slopes. There’s free Wi-Fi throughout, a fitness suite, sauna, and indoor heated swimming pool. Suites are available with 207 bedrooms which can sleep between 4 and 16 guests, with ample bedrooms, bathrooms and living areas for each size. Covered parking is available, there are good restaurants nearby and you can request a daily bakery delivery service for a fee.
Le Chalet des Cimes offers outstanding residential units on a self-catered basis in the car-free resort of Belle Plagne. These ambient and airy apartments have free Wi-Fi, flat screen TVs, fab fireplaces and balconies with beautiful views where you can enjoy your morning coffee and croissant while breathing in the fresh mountain air and readying yourself for the day’s action and adventure. Speaking of which, doorstep skiing at this charming chalet means that you’re always close to your favourite pistes, which is particularly good news if you’re travelling with kids in tow, and the ski school meeting point and kids club are both only a short stroll away. Furthermore, when you need to rest those aching muscles and revive yourself for the next session on the slopes, there’s a chic onsite spa area with a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. Apartments are available with 2-4 bedrooms that sleep between 6-8 people, they’re furnished comfortably and have enough WCs and bathrooms to avoid family queues in the morning!
It’s evident that if you’re yearning for an authentic chalet experience during your Paradiski holiday, you’ll definitely be satisfied with what’s on offer in this stunning ski area.

Le Belmont ski apartments in Arc 1800 enjoy a premium location facing Mont Blanc, have recently benefitted from a fresh refurbishment and offer stunning scenic views at every turn. Nestled on the edge of the forest, they’re just 3 minutes from the shops and ski lifts at Les Villards and 5 minutes from the middle of the resort. Skiing at Les Arcs is varied and exciting, with thrilling black runs for advanced skiers, shaded wood-lined runs for intermediates and snow-sure conditions thanks to over 70% of the skiable area located at an altitude of over 200m. Rooms here range from studios which sleep 4 to 1 bedroom apartments which sleep 4/5 guests and 2 bedroom apartments which sleep 6/7 people. Every room has a well-appointed kitchenette with fridge, hot plates, kettle and dishwasher (because no one should have to wash dishes on holiday!), Wi-Fi is available and there’s a flatscreen TV. There’s a kids area in reception and a pool table and table football are available for a small fee.

Ski hotels in Paradiski
For some Paradiski skiers and snowboarders, a hotel is the ideal accommodation type since it can combine the privacy and comfort of a chalet with the style and ease of an apartment, with the added benefits of onsite wellness facilities and bars and restaurants. This traditional, time-tested setup can be perfect for families since everything you need is under one roof. Here’s a taste of the high-quality hotels available in Paradiski:
Hotel Edenarc in Arc 1800 is blessed by a brilliant location right on the piste above the village. Built with local stone and wood to blend beautifully with the surroundings, it offers doorstep skiing with the Chantel chairlift very close by, and a steam room, sauna and swimming pool where you can unknot your muscles after those tough yet terrific days on the slopes. You can choose from a double room, triple room, junior suite or superior suite with 1-2 bedrooms, and larger configurations include kitchenettes as well as the standard living rooms, shower rooms, bathrooms and WCs. A catered option is available, and the onsite restaurant serves healthy and delicious fare that keeps every guest satisfied, but if you fancy some variation you can also hop on the ski bus for the short drive down to Arc 1800 where there’s a fab choice of cafes and restaurants.
Arc 1950 Le Village comprises 7 accommodation blocks, each decorated to match various themes (like North American, French, Scandinavian), set around a pedestrianised central area just a stone’s throw for the lift to the slopes of Arc 2000. Arc 1950 is the most traditionally styled resort in Les Arcs and many holidaymakers prefer the authentic ambience to that of villages where more contemporary architecture dominates. There’s Wi-Fi throughout, an outdoor swimming pool, hot tub, steam room and fitness room, the onsite Le 1950 restaurant serves sumptuous family meals and vegetarian cuisine is also available at the nearby L’Hemingways Restaurant. This is a family-friendly accommodation but please be aware that balconies may be lower than you’re used to at home, so please be cautious and monitor younger children in your group closely. Open plan studios and suites are available that sleep groups of up to 10 people, so this is a great choice for a larger party.
