Chalet Altitude, Val Thorens
Chalet Altitude is a five‑star alpine residence tucked into the peaceful Les Balcons quarter of Val Thorens. Just 100m from the slopes, it gives you effortless access to widespread skiing. With sweeping valley views, cosy wood‑fired fireplaces, and spacious chalet‑style apartments, it blends charm, comfort, and prime location.
Set high in Val Thorens, Chalet Altitude benefits from the resort’s snow‑sure altitude and extensive ski domain. You’re steps from ski access and inside the Three Valleys network, with over 600 km of terrain within reach. Blue pistes, steeper reds, off‑piste routes, and mountain bowls are all on the menu. You can ski right back to the residence in most conditions, with near door-to-door access.
The residence comprises 20 renovated apartments, newly restored in 2018, each designed to feel like a mountain retreat. They accommodate between 4 and 14 guests, making Chalet Altitude ideal for families, groups, or couples who prefer generous space. The interiors feel warm and considered with wood, stone, and soft lighting - letting the character of a Savoyard chalet shine through.
Every apartment has a fully equipped kitchen (oven, dishwasher, fridge‑freezer, toaster, filter, and Nespresso), a dining nook, and a lounge with a stone fireplace and TV. A balcony or terrace frames views across the Belleville Valley and the surrounding peaks. Heating, storage for ski kit, and comfortable beds complete the setup, and WiFi is included throughout.
In terms of wellness, Chalet Altitude doesn’t disappoint. You’ll find a heated indoor pool and a sauna: perfect for easing tired muscles and lingering while snow falls around you. Loungers and a relaxing ambience make it a peaceful after‑ski sanctuary. Ski lockers with heated boot dryers are on hand for your gear, and reception offers extras like raclette or fondue sets.
From your door, you’re never far from Val Thorens’ stores, cafés, bars, and restaurants. The Red Fox Pub lies adjacent, open until early hours, and serves drinks, snacks, and takeaways in a relaxed setting. It’s one of the highest pubs in the Alps, and makes for an easy après option without trekking far.
Mornings here are a delight: bread and pastries are available by morning delivery to reception, so you can slip into breakfast without leaving your slippers. The residence also offers luggage storage, baby chairs and cots on request, and loan of raclette and fondue sets - little touches that make a difference.
All stays include towels, linen, and end‑of‑stay cleaning (excluding kitchen). Optional extras like mid‑week cleaning and housekeeping are offered too. Underground parking is available (pre‑booked and subject to height limits), and pets are welcome for a supplement.
Chalet Altitude’s location is a strong plus. It’s in the quieter Balcons area, giving you calm and serenity. Yet, you’re still very close to lifts and resort amenities. When you want a change of pace, the heart of Val Thorens is an easy walk or short ski away. Val Thorens itself delivers altitude, variety, and culture. It’s highly pedestrianised, slowing the car noise and making walking easy. Après-ski ranges from relaxed bars to livelier music nights. Off the slopes, try sledging, indoor sports, mountain walks, or glacier views above the resort.
Chalet Altitude is neither overblown nor underwhelming. It delivers a sweet spot: chalet character, wellness comforts, ski convenience, and thoughtful extras. This one deserves your attention if you want a five-star alpine base in Val Thorens that feels like home but performs like a retreat.
