Les Deux Alpes Ski Lessons

Les Deux Alpes is a high-altitude playground that happily breaks the usual mountain rulebook.

Sometimes described as an ‘upside-down’ resort, its gentlest slopes sit right at the top of the glacier, meaning beginners are treated to the best snow and the biggest views from the very start. It’s a confidence-boosting set-up: wide, cruisy runs above the clouds, with increasingly challenging terrain unfolding as you descend towards town.

Snow reliability is one of the resort’s biggest calling cards. With one of the highest skiable glaciers in Europe, topping out at over 3,500m, Les Deux Alpes delivers dependable conditions even when other parts of the Alps are looking a little patchy. Beyond the glacier, there are nearly 200km of pisted runs catering to everyone from first-timers finding their feet on the magic carpets to seasoned riders lapping the world-renowned snowpark. It’s a genuinely varied mountain, with something to keep every ability level engaged.

Choosing the right ski school can make all the difference, and Les Deux Alpes has plenty of strong options. ESF is the traditional heavyweight, instantly recognisable in their red jackets and known for their vast team of instructors. European Ski School (ESI) offers smaller groups and a more international feel, while Supreme Ski School provides British-led instruction with a focus on modern technique. For those seeking high-end coaching or specialist off-piste guiding, Proski is a respected independent choice. Off the slopes, the resort’s lively, linear town and legendary après-ski scene ensure the energy doesn’t dip when the lifts stop spinning.

FAQs

How do I know which "Level" to book?

Don't overthink it. Most schools provide an online chart, but instructors will do a quick ‘ski-off’ on Monday morning to assess everyone's ability. If you’re between levels, it’s usually better to book the lower one to build confidence - the school can always move you up if you’re a natural.

What is the ‘Free Lifts’ situation for beginners?

Les Deux Alpes is quite generous: there are five small lifts at the base of the mountain that are free. This is perfect for your very first day before you've even committed to a full lift pass.

Where are the typical meeting points?

Most schools meet at the Place des Deux Alpes (the central hub) or near the Jandri Express gondola. Always double-check your booking confirmation, as some schools also have satellite meeting points at the 1800 end of town.
