Bardonecchia Ski Lessons

Nestled on a sunny plateau in the heart of Tirol, Seefeld is one of Austria's most charming and well-regarded winter destinations.

Bardonecchia sits at the head of the Susa Valley in the Italian Piedmont, roughly an hour from Turin, with 140km of pistes spread across four sectors: Jafferau, Melezet, Colomion, and Campo Smith. Each area brings something different to the table – from Jafferau’s steep descents to Campo Smith’s family-friendly terrains – giving the resort an unusual variety for its size. The resort's authentic Italian character, shaped largely by local Torinese skiers rather than international tourism, gives it an unpretentious, no-nonsense feel that many skiers find genuinely refreshing.

At Erna Low, we work with ski schools whose instructors know every corner of the Bardonecchia ski area. Beginners are in safe hands on the resort's gentler slopes, with Campo Smith offering a wonderfully calm and relaxed space for those first turns. If you're an intermediate skier, a few lessons will give you the confidence to navigate the wider network and unlock stunning terrain you might otherwise miss. Meanwhile, experienced skiers and snowboarders will appreciate the opportunity to receive expert instruction from instructors on Jafferau's demanding runs — the same mountain that hosted the snowboard halfpipe competition during the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics.

Booking lessons in advance through Erna Low is worth doing early — popular time slots across the resort's smaller schools fill up quickly, and securing your place ahead of travel means one less thing to organise once you arrive.

FAQs

What should I wear for ski lessons in Bardonecchia?

Make sure you’re dressed warmly and with waterproof clothing suitable for mountain weather conditions. Essential items include a ski jacket, salopettes, gloves, goggles or sunglasses, thermal layers and a helmet. Ski socks designed specifically for skiing are also recommended to improve comfort inside ski boots. Weather conditions can change quickly in the Italian Alps, so dressing in layers is usually the best approach.

What can I expect from my beginner first lessons in Bardonecchia as a first-timer?

Bardonecchia is a fantastic place to learn. On your first morning, your instructor will introduce you to your gear and guide you through basic techniques on Campo Smith’s nursery slopes. The beginner areas here are separate from fast-moving skier traffic, and before the week is out, you will comfortably progress to long, beautiful blue runs, enjoying the stunning pine-forested scenery in complete confidence.

How many days of ski lessons should I book in Bardonecchia?

The number of ski lessons you should book depends on your experience level and what you hope to achieve during your holiday. Complete beginners often benefit from several consecutive days of lessons to build confidence and develop solid technique early on. Intermediate skiers may choose shorter refresher sessions or private coaching focused on specific skills. Many visitors book lessons for three to five days to maximise progress throughout the week. Longer lesson programmes also allow instructors to gradually introduce more varied terrain as confidence improves.

Are ski lessons in Bardonecchia taught in English?

Yes, absolutely. If you are English-speaking, your ski lessons will be taught in English. Our ski school partners in Bardonecchia have experienced instructors who speak excellent English and are highly skilled at breaking down technical movements into clear, simple feedback. When you book your group or private lessons through Erna Low, we request English-speaking groups as standard, ensuring that language is never a barrier to your safety, progression, and enjoyment on the mountain.

Do ski lesson bookings include lift passes and equipment hire?

No, your ski lesson booking covers only the cost of your lessons. You will need to arrange your lift passes and equipment hire separately. If you’re booking your ski holiday with us, we make it easy to bundle your lift passes, equipment hire and ski lessons all together. Keep in mind that absolute beginners may not need a full lift pass (on day one) on the nursery slopes.
