We can save your time and take the hassle out of the process, providing you with various options and scenarios to perfectly suit your requirements. However, if you want to take some time out and search for tips on booking a short ski holiday before contacting us, we recommend that you take a few of our guidance tips into consideration.

A Few Things to Consider When Looking for A Ski Weekend Away in France

If the main objective of your visit is to ski as much as you can during your stay and maximise your time on the slopes on your weekend getaway, try searching for less popular ski resort destinations where you are likely to encounter long queues at the lifts and tourist offices. Fewer queues mean less waiting time and more time on the slopes.

Try to avoid school holidays and peak times during the ski season. You are likely to get higher rates during these times and don’t forget the crowds at the resort over these periods; it does get busy during the holidays! Look into the very start of the season or the end of the season to travel to avoid the crowds. These low periods also help you take advantage of early/late season deals and save a bit of money.

Choosing the right accommodation for your stay is crucial. Several rental chalets and apartments change over at the weekends and may not take weekend reservations as a result of the housekeeping and preparations. This is not always the case with all chalets and apartments as some take weekend reservations, but keep it in mind when planning. Hotel reservations are more flexible with weekend reservations and could be a better option when booking a ski weekend away. As advised above, avoid peak seasons ( if you can ) as the rates may be less expensive in the low season.

Plan your travel route wisely. Lookout for ski resorts with short distance travel from the arrival airport or train stations. Car and ferry trips from abroad may be cheaper but will most likely take a big chunk of your weekend time so re-consider your mode of travel. Most resorts are close to the Geneva and Lyon airports so try looking in that direction. If you can, try and search for early flight times when travelling to the resort and late flights on the return.

Weekend holidays could be the best time to book all the extras to allow yourself a truly relaxing experience. Ensure your airport transfer, ski pass, ski equipment and accommodation are already booked with us online so that all that’s left for you to do when you arrive at the resort is dump your bags on your hotel room floor, change into your hired ski gear (that will be waiting for you), pick up your ski pass ( that will already be sorted for you by us) and hit the slopes. Depending on what time you arrive, you may still get more than half a day on the slopes. It is that simple!

Following up on the above advice, travel light if possible. Leave the ski’s, snowboards and large equipment at home and enjoy a light and stress-free travel. It can save you a lot of time waiting for your extra luggage and ski equipment to come through at the baggage carousel. You may have been halfway to the Alps already if you were not standing around waiting for your luggage.

Best Resorts For A Weekend In France

France is home to some of the most amazing ski terrains in the world and what makes this even more special is that they are all next door to us! From the Portes Du Soliel to the Espace Killy to the Three Valleys, there are several resorts within these ski areas that offer amazing experiences from high altitude skiing to fantastic apres-ski weekend parties and events. Whether you are looking for a bit of luxury or travelling on a budget, we can help you find the best resort for your amazing France weekend break.

La Clusaz

Located only an hour drive from Geneva airport La Clusaz is a charming family-friendly ski resort nestled in the Aravis Mountain range. It is a small, relatively unspoiled Alpine village that often gets overlooked for the much bigger and livelier resorts - which is what makes it even more special and ideal for a short weekend ski getaway.

For its size, La Clusaz has an impressive ski terrain that stretches up to 220km of pistes that are suitable for all skill abilities from beginners to seasoned skiers. Regardless of your skill level, you will feel at home at La Clusaz. The ski area sits at an altitude of between 1100 to 2500m. It has a good and dependable ski record and a great network of ski cannons to supplement and ensure good coverage if needed. It also has a quick and upgraded lift network across the resort providing fast and efficient access across the slopes.

In general, accommodation, food and drinks and local amenities in La Clusaz are relatively less expensive than the bigger ski resorts and more popular ski resorts making this a great short visit destination. There is also a good selection of accommodation options ranging from budget apartments and hotels to luxury chalets. The apres-ski is lively for its size however not as vibrant and flamboyant as you would find at other ski resorts so if skiing and merry laughter is what you are after during your break, this is the perfect place for you. Interestingly, the locals are very much part of the fabric in La Clusaz and their presence feeds the cultural atmosphere at the resort, making it feel like every part of a French holiday. The village bell tower, 200-year-old church and other old buildings in the resort contribute to the cultural experience of visiting La Clusaz and it certainly does not resemble a purpose-built ski resort targeting tourists. The centre also has an increasing number of shops and local amenities so make time for a wander through the village if you can.

Flaine

Flaine is a great option to consider when planning a short ski break. It is an easy and quick trip and it’s located only 75km away from Geneva Airport, making for a short transfer time to the resort from the airport. Flaine is an idyllic French village with a very calm and friendly atmosphere that is perfect for a weekend getaway. The Flaine ski area is situated at an altitude of between 1600 to 2500 meters. It has a fantastic snow record and its 64 runs are serviced by 24 lifts in total. Connected to the Grand Massif ski area, there are up to 265km of easy-going runs with a lot of cruisy blue and red pistes. There are also a few blacks and great off-piste opportunities for adventurous souls. Flaine’s impressive snow record and the variety of its pistes are some of its biggest draws for skiers. It is the ideal resort for mixed abilities and it is very popular with families so if you are planning a short break with the kids, this resort should make the list for consideration. It is also a pedestrian resort with ski-in and ski-out accommodation and the majority of its pistes lead back to the centre of the resort making it very easy to meet for everyone on the trip to meet up for meals, drinks and a catch-up between runs. Flaine is a purpose-built ski resort with skiing as the main focus point and whilst it may not be an ideal destination for non-skiers, it has a growing number of bars and restaurants for a merry apres-ski evening. There are several accommodation options to choose from in Flaine which operate half board meal plans, allowing you to have a good breakfast and an evening meal waiting for you on return. This particularly takes the hassle of self-catering or booking evening tables out of the equation allowing for more time and an overall relaxed short holiday.

Morzine

An all-around great ski resort that caters to just about all profiles of visitors, Morzine is another excellent weekend destination especially if you are after a bit of everything from skiing, enjoying a lively apres-ski or sightseeing and engaging in non-skiing activities. The resort has an excellent ambience of charm and character which exudes from the poignant Alpine atmosphere and is also helped by some of the Savoyard-style chalets and old structures dotted about the resort. Morzine is a great choice for a weekend ski break as it is only a 1 hour 20 minutes drive from Geneva Airport making it easy to get to and if your flight was an early one, you would still have enough time to settle in and hit the slopes on the same day. Morzine sits in the heart of the Portes du Soleil, one of the largest ski resorts in the world which stretches into Switzerland and has up to 600km of pistes, covering every skill ability level. It has a fantastic snow record, making for an amazing skiing experience. If you were planning to spend most of the weekend on the slopes, the Portes du Soliel ski pass allows access to the entire ski area. You can plan an entire weekend out of the extensive terrain that your ski pass covers. To save time while covering as much ground as possible during your weekend stay, take the shuttle bus to Avoriaz or Le Gets for access to some of the pistes on those resorts. There is so much available terrain to have an amazing ski break. There is a wide variety of accommodation options to choose from at Morzine, suitable for all budgets, durations and sleeping requirements. Contact us for any further information or inquiries regarding weekend deals and rates for your weekend ski break. There are also excellent bars and restaurants to indulge in whether you are looking to enjoy a nice dinner in a calm and rustic atmosphere or you are after a vibrant lounge with great cocktails, you can be certain of being within proximity to either on a night out. What makes Morzine uniquely special for weekend breaks, is that it is able to attract just all types of people and it has the facilities to adequately cater to their requirements.
