Folgarida Ski Holidays

Surrounded by forests, dramatic peaks and plenty of Alpine charm, Folgarida is a welcoming, modern resort located in the heart of the Italian Dolomites.

Linked with neighbouring Madonna di Campiglio, Marilleva and Pinzolo, in the beautiful Val di Sole, the resort is purpose-built with convenience in mind, which means you’ll find accommodation, lifts, shops and other resort amenities, all close together and easy to reach. The resort has a friendly atmosphere and is renowned for its relaxed, family-oriented environment and straightforward layout.

It's not all vibes at Folgarida - together with Marilleva, the resort has also played its small part in Italy’s snowsports scene over the years - hosting regional ski events (mostly at junior and youth level), including the FIS European Cup, FIS Junior World Ski Championships Qualifiers and Italian National Youth Championships, to name a few.

Off the slopes, Folgarida offers the perfect blend of Italian character and warm Trentino hospitality, for which the region is renowned. The resort is ideal for skiers and holidaymakers looking for a relaxed, high-quality base without the crowds of the larger Dolomite hotspots. Whether you’re planning long ski days or a simple winter escape with little fuss, an Erna Low ski holiday to Folgarida will undoubtedly hit the mark.

Folgarida is part of the Val di Sole ski area and seamlessly links with Marilleva, Madonna di Campiglio, and Pinzolo, providing access to a well-connected network of slopes. The ski area offers 150km of pistes and over 100 runs, supported by a modern lift system that keeps queues to a minimum. The terrain around Folgarida is varied and ideal for mixed-ability groups, ranging from beginners to seasoned skiers. For skiers looking to explore further, the lift links make it easy to ski from Folgarida to Madonna di Campiglio through the iconic Brenta Dolomites.

Snow conditions in Folgarida

Folgarida enjoys reliable snow conditions across the season, thanks in no small part to its position in Val di Sole. Considered one of Italy’s snow-sure regions, Val di Sole is situated between the Brenta Dolomites and the mountain ranges of Ortles-Cevedale and Adamello-Presanella, and also has access to the Presena Glacier.

The resort sits between 1,300m and 1,900m, with many of its slopes sheltered by forest, which helps preserve snow quality even during warmer spells. Folgarida also benefits from its position in the ski area, Madonna di Campiglio and Pinzolo, providing access to higher-altitude terrain that reaches above 2,500m. Snowmaking coverage is excellent across the entire Folgarida–Marilleva area, ensuring consistent piste conditions from early December through spring.

Skiing in Folgarida

Skiing in Folgarida offers a variety of scenic runs across a well-connected ski area. With direct links to Marilleva, Madonna di Campiglio, and Pinzolo, skiers gain access to a diverse range of terrain that suits all abilities.

  • A small beginner's area is located just outside the main village, near the central gondola station. However, most skiers opt to take the gondola to Malghet Aut, another area popular with beginners that offers significantly more terrain. The area features well-groomed nursery slopes and wide pistes perfect for confidence-building.
  • Intermediates are well catered for here. Long blue and reds stretch across Folgarida and Marilleva, offering mile after mile of cruising. The Direttissima Folgarida is a long 3km red descent offering stunning Dolomite views - with runs like Copai-Panciana and Orso Bruno on Marivella’s adding to the party.
  • Advanced skiers and seasoned pros will find steeper blacks and more challenging descents on Madonna di Campiglio. The famous World Cup piste, Canalone Miramonti, is worth a punt if you fancy testing your technique.
  • For off-piste, the higher terrain between Folgarida and Madonna di Campiglio offers the best opportunities. While not a hardcore freeride destination, guided off-piste routes and sidecountry spots can be excellent in the right conditions.

Snowboarding in Folgarida

Snowboarding in Folgarida is a refreshing blend of well-groomed pistes, sheltered tree runs, and easy access to the deep bowls in Madonna di Campiglio, as well as extended cruising runs in Marilleva.

  • Folgarida itself has wide blue and red pistes that are great for practising turns, cruising with friends or warming up before exploring further afield. The tree-lined areas hold snow well, offering ideal riding conditions.
  • The Ursus Snowpark in Madonna di Campiglio is the main draw for freestylers. Offering easy access from Folgarida, the Urus is one of the Dolomites' most celebrated snowparks, featuring multiple lines for different skill levels, including jumps, rails, and boxes, plus a well-shaped layout that keeps laps fast and fun.
  • Advanced snowboarders will appreciate the steeper terrain and more challenging reds and blacks closer to Madonna di Campiglio, including routes with sharper gradients and more technical sections. When the snow is fresh, there are off-piste and sidecountry options between the linked resorts - best enjoyed with a guide to maximise the conditions safely.
