Pila Ski Holidays
Sitting at a resort height of 1,800m (with slopes climbing up to 2,700m), Pila enjoys excellent snow reliability and panoramic views of Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, and the Matterhorn. It’s also one of the easiest resorts to reach in the Alps - just a 20-minute gondola ride from Aosta - linking the iconic valley to the resort.
Over the years, Pila has evolved into a stylish resort with a relaxed vibe. Its compact layout means that everything, from restaurants and bars to shops and accommodations, is close by, allowing for a relaxed and stress-free atmosphere.
Away from ski slopes, Pila has a lot to offer, from paragliding on clear days, visiting the winter markets in Aosta, or simply enjoying a sunny mountain terrace with a drink and view. Getting there is straightforward, with Turin (Torino) and Milan airports being the closest to Pila, offering a journey time of just under 2 hours. It might rank as one of Italy’s large or popular resorts, but Pila is somewhat of a ‘pocket rocket’. Ultimately, it's the ideal ski destination for skiers and snowboarders who just want a stress-free holiday with great snow, stunning scenery, and authentic Italian character.
Pila’s location above Aosta makes it one of the area’s most convenient and well-connected resorts.

Mountain facts
Pila forms part of the Aosta Valley ski area, offering a well-designed and snow-sure ski area that’s perfect for all levels. The resort boasts up to 70km of well-groomed slopes across a sunny, south-facing bowl, served by a modern lift system designed to keep queues short and access easy. The terrain also offers a great mix of wide, open runs and scenic tree-lined trails. Sitting at 1,800m with slopes peaking at 2,750m, the resort offers four blues, 25 reds and four blacks.
Pilas' location within the Aosta Valley also offers easy access to neighbouring resorts in the region, such as Cervinia and La Thuile, both of which are connected to the Aosta Valley ski network.
Snow conditions in Pila
Pila generally enjoys excellent snow reliability throughout the season thanks to its high-altitude slopes and the mountain's north-facing orientation, which helps preserve and maintain snow quality even in milder conditions. The area also receives regular snowfall, which keeps the slopes higher up the mountain covered in fresh powder. On the rare occasion where supplementation is needed, the resort has modern snowmaking facilities on stand-by to cover any shortages. The pistes are well-maintained, with daily grooming keeping the runs smooth and enjoyable for all abilities. When fresh snow falls, there’s also plenty of off-piste terrain to explore, offering a real treat for powder lovers.
Skiing in Pila
Pila is undoubtedly one of Italy’s best-kept skiing secrets. With fewer queues and quieter slopes than some of Italy’s larger and more popular resorts, Pila offers a compact, well-designed ski area with mixed slopes across a varied terrain.
- Beginners and families with small children will find Pila a great place to take their first ‘slushy’ steps. The nursery slopes near the village, like the Pila and Grimondet, offer wide pistes perfect for learning and practising their turns and ploughs on uncrowded slopes.
- With the majority of Pila’s slopes being reds (and some challenging blues), intermediates are absolutely spoiled for choice. Runs like the Chamolé, Leissé, and Platta de Grevon are particularly long, enjoyable runs across varied terrain and with minimal crowds and fantastic snow.
- Seasoned vets get to test their skills on steep blacks like Couis 1 and Couis 2, where the panoramic views are as rewarding as the descents. There’s also excellent off-piste terrain above the tree line - best to hit after fresh snowfall - and we’ll always recommend going with a guide.
