Avoriaz Ski Passes

Finding the right lift ticket for a trip to the French Alps can occasionally feel like you’re trying to solve a complex puzzle while wearing mittens.

Perched at 1,800m on a dramatic cliff edge, Avoriaz is often described as the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the Portes du Soleil. It’s a unique, car-free resort where horse-drawn sleighs replace taxis and you can literally ski from your front door to the bakery. Year on year, the resort continues to lead the way in high-altitude convenience, ensuring that even if the lower valleys are looking a bit ‘green’, the slopes here remain crisp and white.

The resort isn't just a standalone destination; it’s a central hub. From here, you can strike out into a massive network of slopes that spans two countries. For those who enjoy a bit of local flavour, the immediate Avoriaz sector offers roughly 81 miles of varied pistes, but if you have the legs for it, the wider area opens up a staggering 373 miles of terrain. It’s this versatility that makes picking the right pass so crucial - you don’t want to pay for the whole of Switzerland if you’re only planning on tackling the nursery slopes.

Types of ski passes in Avoriaz

Choosing your pass essentially comes down to how far you want to roam.

You have two main options: the local Avoriaz 1800 pass for staying close to home, or the Portes du Soleil pass for total cross-border freedom. Both are issued on reusable, hands-free RFID cards, with group discounts available for families or friends booking together.

Avoriaz 1800 Local Pass
The Avoriaz local pass is the ‘bread and butter’ option for many visitors. It covers about 81 miles of pistes, which, to put it in perspective, is more than enough to keep most intermediate skiers busy for a three or four-day break. This pass gives you access to the wonderfully sunny Plateau area, the high-altitude powder bowls of Arare, and the world-famous ‘Stash’ - a natural, eco-friendly snowpark built through the trees. It’s perfectly suited for those who want to stay close to home, as well as for families who don’t want the logistical headache of crossing borders with tired children in tow.

Portes du Soleil Full Area Pass
If you have an adventurous spirit and want to tick off a ski safari, the Portes du Soleil pass is the only way to go. This ‘gold standard’ ticket grants access to 12 resorts, including Morzine, Les Gets, and several Swiss villages such as Les Crosets and Champery. With over 373 miles of skiing at your fingertips, you can literally ski from France into Switzerland for a lunch of fondue and be back in time for après-ski in Avoriaz. It’s the best value for advanced skiers who want to tackle the infamous Swiss Wall - one of the steepest and most challenging mogul runs in the world - or those who simply love the feeling of never skiing the same run twice in a week.
