Skiing in La Rosière

When you’re skiing in La Rosiere, you’ll find a great choice of intermediate and advanced runs on both sides of the border, with superb steep north facing pistes and pristine fresh powder. Here’s some more interesting information on skiing in La Rosiere:

  • La Rosiere’s main “Front de Neige” base area and ski lifts are situated at the upper west side of the village and you’ll find a second base with access lifts at Les Eucherts. Both areas have good novice zones and the network of cruisey blue zones right above allow beginners to progress to intermediate level at a natural pace.

  • The lion’s share of the ski area in La Rosiere lies above the tree line on the expansive slopes that range up northwards on a ridge descending from the Italian border. The east side of this territory is the beating heart of the resort’s skiing opportunities, with an efficient lift network delivering you to thrilling red runs winding down to Combe des Moulins – there’s usually plenty of fresh powder between the pistes and this is an awesome area for improving intermediate skiers.

  • The 2800m Mont-Valaisan ski area opened at La Rosiere at the end of 2018 at the eastern end of the resort and expanded its offering to the tune of six red runs accessed by two six-person chairlifts. It’s the highest skiing in the entire Espace San Bernardo and unlocks even more off-piste skiing on the north side of the Aosta Valley.

  • There are three free ski lifts for novices and an area of green runs close to the Lievre Blanc and Clarines lifts. If you’re starting from the fundamentals you can learn the basic ski moves here before progressing to longer green runs and wide blue pistes nearby.

  • Intermediate skiers also enjoy tackling the long connection across to La Thuile and there are more tricky tree-lined runs on the Italian side as the slopes are set lower down. Check the weather before you leave as the link is sometimes closed. Prepare for a long trek too – it’s 11km there and back and involves taking several drag lifts although it is well worth it to have a gorgeous Italian lunch.

  • Although La Rosiere isn’t the most famous French ski resort for advanced skiers, that doesn’t mean that there are no black runs and off-piste adventures to be found. There are 15 black runs accessible in the resort and ski instructors or mountain guides can take you to the best off-piste areas. The 3km long Franco Berthod piste might be the most gnarly run in La Rosiere and you can Heli ski over or the Italian side although it’s prohibited in France.
