La Toussuire Ski Holidays
Whether you’re here for the 193 miles of linked piste or just a quiet week of fondue and fresh air, this resort punches well above its weight.
La Toussuire is often described as the heart of Les Sybelles, and it’s easy to see why. Located at an altitude of 1,749m, it sits in a natural bowl that acts as a sun trap. Unlike some Alpine resorts that spend half the day in the shadow of a neighbouring peak, La Toussuire enjoys nearly 360-degree exposure.
The resort was purpose-built, but don't let that deter you. Unlike the harsh concrete monoliths of the 1960s, La Toussuire has evolved into a pedestrian-friendly, human-scale village. Most accommodations are ski-in, ski-out, meaning you can go from your morning coffee to the chairlift in just a matter of minutes. It’s part of the fourth-largest ski area in France, linking six resorts (Le Corbier, Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves, Saint-Jean-d'Arves, Les Bottières, and Saint-Colomban-des-Villards), making it a massive playground for those who love to travel on their skis.
Enjoy 360-degree panoramic views and sunshine on the vast, high-altitude plateau of the massive Sybelles ski area!

Mountain facts
The resort base is a healthy 1,749m, which ensures reliable snow coverage right down to the village. The highest point accessible from the local lifts is Les Perrons at 2,619m.
While the entire Les Sybelles domain offers 193 miles of terrain, the local La Toussuire and Les Bottières sector provides about 34 miles of its own runs. The lift system has seen significant investment recently, including the 10-seater Côte du Bois gondola, which has drastically reduced morning queues.
Snow conditions in La Toussuire
La Toussuire’s altitude and its geographical position in the Maurienne Valley serve it well. It benefits from a microclimate that often catches storms rolling in from the west and north.
On average, the resort sees about 135 inches of snowfall per season. Because the plateau is so open, the resort has invested heavily in snow-making technology to ensure that the return runs (the paths back to the village) stay open even during warmer spring weeks. There are over 600 snow cannons across the domain.
Skiing in La Toussuire
Skiing here is, quite simply, a joy - especially for intermediates. If you love long, wide blue and red runs where you can really open up your turns without fear of narrowing tracks or terrifying drop-offs, you’re in the right place. The Front de Neige is one of the best beginner areas in the Alps: flat, sunny, and right next to the terrace bars, so learners don’t feel banished to some snowy exile. Intermediates should make a beeline for the Médaille d’Or, a wide, sweeping red with superb views and consistently good snow thanks to its favourable orientation.
Experts, meanwhile, shouldn’t be fooled by the resort’s family-friendly label. The Casse Pipe black run is steep, ungroomed, and has plenty of bite - perfect for anyone keen to put their mogul technique to the test. And for those who prefer their winter adventures at a gentler pace, there are around 20 miles of Nordic ski trails winding through the quiet forests between La Toussuire and Le Corbier - peaceful, scenic, and wonderfully civilised.
Snowboarding in La Toussuire
Snowboarders often have a love-hate relationship with older French resorts (flat sections are the enemy!), but La Toussuire is surprisingly rider-friendly. Most of the main arteries are wide enough that you never feel restricted.
The Sy’X Park is the jewel in the crown for freestylers. Located at 2,619m, it’s a high-quality snow park with lines ranging from "I've never jumped before’ to ‘I should probably be in the X-Games’. For those seeking a thrill without the airtime, the permanent boardercross course is a fantastic place to race against your friends. If it’s a powder day, head over toward the Grand Truc; the terrain there is undulating and full of natural hits and drops.
Accommodation in La Toussuire
Accommodation in La Toussuire is largely focused on convenience. Most buildings are situated along or just off the main Rue Blanche, which acts as the spine of the resort.
What's available at La Toussuire ski resort?
Après-ski in La Toussuire
Après-ski here isn't about dancing on tables in ski boots at 2pm (though you can find a party if you look). It’s more about the French Way - good drinks, great food, and a relaxed atmosphere. Here are the spots you shouldn't miss:
- Hôtel Bar Restaurant Le Marolay is the place for lunch or an immediate post-ski beer. Its terrace is legendary for catching the last rays of the afternoon sun. The service is fast, and the vibe is very mountain-chic.
- If you want a cosy, intimate spot to warm up with a vin chaud, Les Airelles is it. It feels like a classic alpine refuge and is a great place to escape if the weather turns.
- Bar Restaurant Les Alpes is a bit more refined and is a great spot for a quiet drink. It’s close to many of the wellness centres, so it’s the perfect post-massage destination.
- Le Tonneau is where the energy lives. If you’re looking for live music, a pub atmosphere, and a younger crowd, Le Tonneau is the resort's heartbeat. Their wood-fired pizzas are among the best in town.
- For a truly authentic Savoyard experience, you have to visit Chez Annisette. It’s the kind of place where you feel like a local the moment you walk in. It’s perfect for a glass of Mondeuse (local red wine) and some high-quality local charcuterie.
Facilities in La Toussuire
La Toussuire is very much a working village, in the best possible sense: it has everything you need for a whole week on the mountain without ever having to leave the plateau. The heart of the resort is home to a long, heated shopping arcade - an absolute gift from the alpine gods on snowy days - where you can browse everything from local cheeses and technical ski gear to the inevitable ‘I went to the Alps, and all I got was this souvenir’ purchases, without getting so much as a snowflake down your collar.
When the boots come off, the options keep coming. Many of the larger residences have their own spas, and there are also public wellness spots such as Le Spa des Alpes for a proper post-ski unwind. Off the slopes, things get more adventurous: dog-sledging through the woods, night-time snowmobile tours, and - for the gloriously fearless - microlight flights from the local altiport offering jaw-dropping views of the Aiguilles d’Arves from above. Not exactly a quiet night in, is it?
Facilities for children in La Toussuire
La Toussuire proudly holds the Famille Plus label, a national French certification awarded only to resorts that genuinely go the extra mile for families. For the tiniest skiers, Club Piou Piou - run by the ESF (French Ski School) - provides a dedicated, fenced-off snow garden for children from just 2.5 years old, using magic carpets and cheerful characters to turn those very first wobbly steps on snow into a game rather than a battle.
If you need full-day childcare, Club Castors has you covered, offering a carefully balanced mix of indoor activities and outdoor snow play, including lunch, so parents are free to roam the full 193 miles of the Les Sybelles ski area without a second thought. The resort also takes safety seriously, with clearly marked slow zones and dedicated sledge runs kept well away from main ski traffic - so the little ones can enjoy the mountain just as much as the grown-ups, without any unnecessary drama.
