Arc 1800 Transfers
Arc 1800 is the largest and most central of the four Les Arcs villages, sitting at a confident altitude that keeps the snow reliable and the skiing varied.
Most skiers flying to Arc 1800 will land at one of four airports. Chambéry (CMF) is the closest, roughly 80 miles from the resort, with a transfer time of around 1.5 hours. Geneva (GVA) is the most popular choice by some margin, offering the widest range of flights from across the UK; it's a little further at 93–103 miles, with transfers typically taking two and a half to three hours. Lyon (LYS) and Grenoble (GNB) are both viable alternatives at around 125–130 miles, with journey times of roughly 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours 15 minutes.
Whichever airport you fly into, all road transfers converge on the valley town of Bourg-Saint-Maurice before the final push up to the resort. From there, it's a winding ten-mile climb - spectacular on a clear day - taking around thirty minutes to reach the Arc 1800 plateau. It's worth factoring in this last stretch of your journey, particularly if you're travelling with young children or after a long-haul connection.
Private transfers offer door-to-door service with no waiting around, making them a popular choice for families and groups who'd rather get straight to the mountains. Shared shuttles are a cost-effective alternative for solo travellers or couples, though they tend to operate primarily at weekends to align with the standard Saturday changeover. If you'd prefer to avoid the road entirely, the train is a genuinely enjoyable option - take the Eurostar or a TGV to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, then hop on the seven-minute funicular to Arc 1600, followed by a free shuttle bus up to Arc 1800. It's efficient, scenic, and often underrated.
