The centre is the heartbeat of the resort, and staying here puts you within easy walking distance of the main Jandri Express gondola as well as the busiest bars and restaurants. If you want to be at the centre of everything - on and off the mountain - this is the place to base yourself. Les Deux Alpes 1800 is a quieter satellite area, slightly higher up, and it's particularly well regarded for its ski-in, ski-out convenience, making it a strong choice for families or anyone who'd rather not faff around with shuttle buses at the start or end of the day.
At the northern entrance to the resort, on the Mont de Lans side, you'll tend to find more budget-friendly options alongside several larger apartment complexes - good news if you're travelling in a group and keeping an eye on costs. Meanwhile, the southern end of town around Place de Venosc has a slightly more traditional Alpine feel and offers quick access to the Diable chairlift, which is ideal if you're planning to ski that side of the mountain regularly.
As a general rule, staying within around 300m of either the Jandri or Diable lift hubs will mean you can walk to the slopes without needing to rely on the resort shuttle. That said, the free bus does run the full length of the resort throughout the day, so even properties further afield are perfectly manageable. Beyond lift proximity, it's also worth thinking about what else you'd like to be close to - the outdoor pool, the ice rink, or particular restaurant areas - as these can all influence where your ideal base might be.
