Accommodation in Avoriaz
Avoriaz
Perched on a clifftop and overlooking the neighbouring resort of Morzine, Avoriaz is one of the most distinctive ski resorts you’ll ever visit.
It's instantly recognisable for its unique, modernist architecture, which uses timber cladding to blend seamlessly into the surrounding mountains. Avoriaz is also one of the highest villages in the sprawling Portes du Soleil ski area, sitting pretty at 1,800m. This high-altitude location means it’s one of the most snow-sure resorts in the region, with excellent conditions often lasting well into April.
But what truly sets Avoriaz apart is its completely car-free environment. That’s right; you won’t find a single vehicle in the resort. Instead, you get around on foot, on skis, or, if you're feeling particularly fancy, on a horse-drawn sleigh. This makes for a wonderfully serene and safe atmosphere, particularly for families. The resort itself is a skier's dream, with a vast network of pistes suitable for all levels, and you're never more than a few hundred metres from the nearest lift.
Avoriaz is a great base for exploring the huge Portes du Soleil ski area, which links 12 resorts across France and Switzerland. With a Portes du Soleil pass, you can access over 600km of slopes, from gentle beginner runs to challenging black pistes, including the legendary Swiss Wall.
Choosing your Avoriaz ski accommodation
When it comes to picking a place to stay in Avoriaz, you're in for a treat. Because the resort was purpose-built with skiing in mind, the vast majority of accommodation is ski-in, ski-out. This is a huge deal, and it's something that truly sets Avoriaz apart. You can literally wake up, have a coffee, and be on the piste within seconds of walking out your front door. No faffing with bus queues, no long walks in uncomfortable ski boots—just pure, unadulterated convenience. This seamless access to the slopes is a hallmark of the Avoriaz experience and a major reason why so many people return year after year.
The resort offers a fantastic range of options to suit every taste, group size, and budget. While you can find hotels and chalets, Avoriaz is best known for its self-catered apartments. This type of accommodation offers a level of flexibility that many people crave on a ski holiday, allowing you to eat in, eat out, or mix and match as you please. It's a great option for families who need kitchen facilities for picky eaters or for groups of friends who want to relax and cook together after a big day on the mountain.

Ski apartments in Avoriaz
Apartments are the most popular accommodation choice in Avoriaz, and for good reason. They're a fantastic option for families, groups of friends, or anyone who wants the flexibility of self-catering. You can find everything from cosy, functional studios to spacious, high-end apartments with five-star facilities. Many apartment complexes also offer fantastic extras like spas, swimming pools, and on-site restaurants.
Popular apartment residences include L'Amara, a luxurious option with a great spa, and Pierre & Vacances Residence Atria-Crozats, which offers spacious and modern apartments with panoramic views. For a more budget-friendly stay, you'll find plenty of older apartment blocks that are just as conveniently located, often just metres from the slopes.
Ski chalets in Avoriaz
Avoriaz's focus on pioneering architectural design means the resort does not feature the traditional standalone chalets common elsewhere in the Alps. Instead, the resort's strength lies in its extensive range of innovative, purpose-built apartments and hotels, which are perfectly designed to maximise your time on the snow.
Most residences provide ski-in, ski-out access, allowing you to click into your skis right outside your door. This fully capitalises on the resort's car-free, slopes-integrated layout—a convenience that is far less common with remote chalets. Furthermore, many of our modern apartment complexes feature fantastic shared luxury amenities like indoor heated pools, saunas, steam rooms, and spas that would only be available at a much higher price point in a private chalet.
Ski hotels in Avoriaz
Though a smaller segment of the market, there are some excellent hotel options in and around Avoriaz. Hotels are a great choice if you're not planning a full week away, as they often offer more flexibility with dates. They also provide all the comforts of a hotel stay, including restaurants, bars, and a more intimate, service-oriented atmosphere.
One of the best-known hotels in the resort is the architecturally stunning Hôtel des Dromonts. For a more peaceful stay, consider a hotel in the Les Prodains area, just below the resort, like Hotel Les Lans. It's a short ride up on the cable car to access the slopes, and you'll be rewarded with a tranquil setting surrounded by beautiful scenery.
