Flaine is the gateway to the Grand Massif - one of France's largest ski domains linking Flaine with the villages of Samoens, Morillon, Les Carroz and Sixt. The Grand Massif contains 265 km of connected pistes, providing plenty of options for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. The ski area boasts a variety of ski terrain including wide, tree-lined slopes which lead back to Flaine, plenty of powder runs and exciting off-piste areas too. Many of the high altitude runs within the resort provide spectacular panoramic views of Mont Blanc.

With one of the best snow records in Europe, Flaine’s pistes remain in superior condition for the duration of the season thanks to its orientation and location in a wide bowl with plenty of north-facing slopes. Flaine also features 100 snow cannons along 10 km of pistes (25% of all the runs in Flaine), so ski conditions can be maintained during any unusual periods of weather. Those choosing to ski during the months of January and February will enjoy the sunnier, south-facing slopes. Later in the season, favourable conditions can still be enjoyed by skiing on the shadier north facing runs.

Flaine Ski Area

The Flaine ski area is renowned for acquiring some of the best snow conditions in Europe. The resort’s north-west facing bowl creates wide open runs, with the freedom to experience the panoramic views of Mont Blanc by heading up to the ridge. The summit of the resort, Les Grandes Platieres is a great place to view the surrounding landscape. The resort was designed by skiers for skiers, so queuing for ski lifts is rarely a problem. Flaine was the first resort in France to install snow-cannons, and now has 100 snow-making facilities providing additional snow cover where needed.

The gentle nursery slopes at the foot of Flaine are perfect for beginners and children, and are serviced by free beginner lifts meaning you won’t need to purchase a lift pass until you find your ski feet. For intermediates, Flaine offers a range of more challenging pistes accompanied by an extensive lift system. Blue and red options make up the majority of the runs in Flaine, counting tree-lined trails, long motorway cruising and mogul fields. Advanced skiers can enjoy a number of demanding black runs including the Diamond Noir, Grandes Platieres, Lindars Nord and endless off-piste trails which should be treated with glacier-style caution (we strongly advise booking a guide if you are planning on heading off-piste, as there are several crevasses in the local area).

Grand Massif Ski Area

The ski resort of Flaine is the original resort of the Grand Massif which links the resorts of Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoens and Sixt. Thanks to its high altitude and geological position, the whole ski area experiences excellent ski conditions throughout the winter season.

The Grand Massif has a staggering 265 km of pistes and 148 slopes, making it the fourth largest ski area in France. The lift system is an impressive network of almost 80 lifts, which carry 75,000 people per hour. It’s also home to the ‘Jam Park’, which becomes host to exciting snow parties featuring a BBQ and DJ, every Sunday.
