Avoriaz Ski Transfers

Avoriaz is one of the Alps' most distinctive resorts - and one of its most logistically interesting.

The entire village is pedestrianised, meaning no cars are permitted once you're inside the resort. This shapes your transfer experience from the moment you arrive. Rather than being dropped at your chalet door, all road transfers end at one of two main Welcome Centres: the Plateau Welcome Centre (Accueil) at the top road entrance, which serves the central and upper parts of the resort, or the Prodains Express Cable Car at the lower entrance near Morzine, which suits those staying in the lower sectors.

The most popular gateway is Geneva Airport (GVA), around 60 miles away and typically an hour and 45 minutes by road - a straightforward and well-serviced route. Chambéry Airport (CMF) sits roughly 85 miles out (about two hours), while Lyon Airport (LYS) is the furthest option at around 135 miles and closer to two hours and 45 minutes. All are manageable, and Erna Low can arrange transfers from each of them.

Once your vehicle reaches the Welcome Centre, the journey takes on a rather magical quality. The final leg to your accommodation is completed by horse-drawn sleigh or tracked snowcat (known as a chenillette) - a genuinely memorable way to arrive at your ski holiday. For transfers, you can choose between shared shuttles, which run on fixed schedules and offer excellent value, or private and group options for those who prefer a more tailored journey.

FAQs

How far is the drive from the nearest airport for Avoriaz ski transfers?

The shortest and most popular route is from Geneva Airport, which is approximately 60 miles, around one hour and 45 minutes by road. It's a well-trodden route with plenty of reliable transfer options throughout the ski season.

Can Avoriaz ski transfers drop me directly at my hotel?

No - because the resort is entirely car-free, all road transfers stop at either the Plateau Welcome Centre or the Prodains Express Cable Car station. From there, horse-drawn sleighs and snowcats handle the journey to your specific accommodation.

What happens if I arrive late at night on Avoriaz ski transfers?

The Plateau Welcome Centre is open around the clock, so late arrivals are catered for. Horse-drawn sleighs do stop running in the evening, but tracked snowcats (chenillettes) take over for nighttime transport into the resort.

Do I need to book Avoriaz ski transfers in advance?

Yes, and it's particularly important to book early during peak periods such as Christmas and February half-term, when demand is high, and availability on shared shuttles can fill up quickly.

Is there a train station nearby for Avoriaz ski transfers?

The closest train stations are Cluses (about 25 miles away) and Thonon-les-Bains (about 28 miles away). From either station, you'll still need a road transfer or local bus connection to reach the resort, so it's worth factoring that into your journey planning.
