Ski Accommodation in The Three Valleys
Do some cursory research on Alpine holidays and there’s no doubt that you’ll soon find lots of information on The Three Valleys.
If you’re tempted to book your next ski holiday in the world’s largest lift-linked ski area, we don’t blame you ̶ the skiable area here clocks in at a mind-boggling 600km of well-groomed runs and powdery off-piste playgrounds, with 200 lifts to take you to and fro without delay.
The three main resorts here offer a triple-whammy of amenities, facilities and attractions on and off the slopes. At over 2300m, vertiginous Val Thorens is Europe’s highest resort and it’s a global hotspot for high-altitude snowsports with exciting apres-ski that’s also excellent for families thanks to its car-free status. Meanwhile, Méribel is a more traditional resort which is peppered with pretty chalet style residences, pistes to suit all abilities and laid-back bars and cafes, and while Courchevel has accommodation to suit all budgets, it’s also the home of haute cuisine, with a staggering seven Michelin-starred restaurants!
These three stellar resorts are complemented by a number of charming satellite villages which are each distinctive and delightful. So there really is a diverse choice of accommodation options available from Erna Low in The Three Valleys, whether you want a chic chalet close to the pubs and clubs, a well-appointed apartment a short ski away from the slopes, or a hotel where you can pamper yourself in the spa before heading into town for a big night out with friends and family.
Many of our accommodation options can satisfy the divergent demands of mixed groups too ̶ equidistant from the shops and slopes, in resorts with a balance of pistes for varied ability groups, and with ample off-slope entertainment for children as well as exciting apres-ski for adults.
With generations of experience organising customised ski holidays, we’re confident we can meet any challenge, because making sure you have the best possible time in the mountains is our bread and butter.
When you want to find the perfect accommodation in The Three Valleys, trust Erna Low every time.
Ski chalets in The Three Valleys
Alpine chalets are synonymous with cosiness and cheer ̶ perhaps that’s why the typical design with A-frame roof covered in snow, ornate balconies, rustic wooden façade, and solid stone lower level has adorned many a festive chocolate box around the world.
Originally these iconic buildings served agricultural purposes as they provided shelter for shepherds and their livestock during the winter and they entered the wider collective consciousness thanks in part to Johanna Spyri’s classic children’s novel Heidi and its various TV adaptations over the years.
Our pioneering founder Erna Low was the first to introduced catered chalet holidays (in Austria in 1932) and similar designs are found all over the European Alpine and Scandinavian nations as well as in ski resorts across North America. Furthermore, the versatile design has also been used for student accommodation ̶ you’ll find chalet villages on the scenic campus of the University of Stirling in Scotland, for example. Chalets soon became so closely associated with holidays that nowadays the term is used to refer to different designs of vacation accommodation as far afield as the Middle East.
The Three Valley chalet accommodation you can book through Erna Low typically resembles the original Savoyard style, although sometimes several discrete apartments or suites will be housed in a greatly enlarged variation of the classic design. However, interiors often have features which hark back to the iconic residential chalet, such as open plan living areas with roaring log fires, comfortable furnishings made for keeping cosy and snug bedrooms where you can drift off to sleep gazing out of the window as the sun sinks slowly over the mountains and the lights of your resort start to twinkle like stars. There are lots of outstanding options to choose from, but here are a few of our favourite chalet-style accommodations:
Les Chalets du Forum in Courchevel 1850 is a modern adaptation of the classic chalet style, right in the middle of the resort. This 4-star residence offers ski-in/ski-out convenience, it’s child and pet-friendly, car parking is available and there’s Wi-Fi throughout. Bordering La Croisette and close to the Commerce shopping arcade, this accommodation places you and your family in the heart of all of the entertainment and amenities on offer. Apartments are furnished with tactile wood and soft shade fabrics which are calming and comfortable and crucially, they’re just 100m from the world’s biggest snowsports playground. Various sizes and styles of suites are available, from a 1 bedroom which sleeps 4 people to a 4 bedroom which sleeps 10, and there are ample bathrooms and WCs and kitchenettes where you can cook up a storm with fresh ingredients from the supermarket or prepare simple snacks with delicatessen delights.
Chalet Des Neiges Plein Sud in Val Thorens is centrally located and each accommodation unit is tastefully furnished in the traditional Savoyard style, with airy and spacious living rooms complemented by scenic balconies, terracotta floor tiles, wooden fixtures and fittings, leather seats and sofas, and even a fabulous fire with stone surround. Apartments are available with 2-7 bedrooms that sleep between 4-14 guests in complete comfort and each has a kitchenette with dishwasher, hobs, microwave, kettle, coffee maker and fridge/freezer ̶ everything you need for preparing daily meals or entertaining friends. Doorstep skiing means you can maximise your piste time and when you need to relax there’s an onsite spa and pool.
Les Chalets du Soleil in Les Menuires beautifully blend traditional wood, slate and stone features with contemporary design, so they’re chic, comfortable and sociable, with airy, ambient, generously proportioned living rooms that are perfect for cosy evenings spent sipping vin chaud around the fireplace. Doorstep skiing means you’re never far from the action and as well as perfectly groomed slopes for skiers and snowboarders, Les Menuires is the starting point for an excellent network of snowshoe hiking trails, while sleigh rides with husky dogs are available at Saint-Martin de Belleville and there’s plenty of apres-ski action for adults too. 1-7 bedroom apartments are available which sleep between 4 and 15 guests and Les Chalets du Soleil has a near perfect ratings score from former customers.
As you can see, if you want the perfect Alpine hideaway that combines Alpine heritage and hospitality with all the mod cons you need to feel comfortable, Erna Low’s Three Valleys chalet selection always satisfies.
